A Law Student on the Case
Hi, I’m Alicia, the law student behind Legally on the Case. ⚖️
My interest in law goes beyond lectures, textbooks and exams. I’m fascinated by the stories behind cases, the reasoning behind judgments, and the way the law shapes real people’s lives. That curiosity inspired me to create Legally on the Case, a space where everyone can explore the legal world while documenting my own journey into the profession.
I have a particular interest in asylum and immigration law and aspire to build a career in this area. I’m especially drawn to the human side of the law and the role legal professionals can play in helping people navigate complex systems, understand their rights and access justice.
Through Legally on the Case, I hope to develop my legal knowledge, explore the areas of law that interest me most and share what I learn as I work towards my goal of becoming a solicitor specialising in asylum and immigration law.
My Legal Plan
My goal is to build a career as a solicitor, gaining practical legal experience alongside my studies and continuing to develop my research, writing, advocacy and client-care skills.
But this blog isn’t about pretending I have my entire career figured out. It’s about documenting the process of the applications, opportunities, successes, setbacks and lessons that happen along the way.
Through Legally on the Case, I’ll share what I learn about different areas of law, legal careers, applications and professional development, while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
Think of this as my own ongoing case file one that is still being written.
With every module, case I analyse, application I submit and opportunity I take, I’m adding another piece of evidence to the person and legal professional I hope to become. There will be successes, setbacks, lessons and plenty of legal tea along the way, and Legally on the Case is where I’ll document it all.
I may not know exactly where every chapter will take me, but I know the direction I want to go towards a career where I can use the law to advocate, support and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
The evidence is growing. The story is unfolding. The career is developing. And this case? It’s far from closed
For every law student still figuring it out, this space is for you too.
Studying law isn’t always easy. There are difficult modules, disappointing grades, rejected applications and moments when you question whether you’re doing enough. But your legal journey doesn’t have to look perfect to be heading in the right direction.
Through Legally on the Case, I want to share not only what I’m learning, but the real journey behind becoming a legal professional and the progress, mistakes, opportunities, setbacks and small wins that often don’t make it onto LinkedIn.
Whether you're applying for your first legal role, trying to improve your grades, exploring different areas of law or simply working out what you want from your future, I hope this blog reminds you that everyone starts somewhere.
You don’t need to have your entire legal career mapped out today. Keep learning, keep applying, stay curious and permit yourself to grow along the way.
Your case is still being written so please don’t close the file too early
